Through the YOUR CAUSE. OUR COMMITMENT initiative by the Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS, seriously ill children and their families at the Austrian children's hospice now have unrestricted access to the therapeutic garden areas. Jenny Heidenreich from SIXT Austria identified the problem: raised door thresholds prevented wheelchair users from accessing the healing outdoor spaces at Sterntalerhof - Verein für ganzheitliche Lebensbegleitung. The Sterntalerhof is a specialized hospice that provides comprehensive support for life-threateningly ill children and their families in the areas of living, dying, and grief counseling. Although the building was fundamentally designed to be accessible, the terrace doors presented an insurmountable obstacle.
"The Sterntalerhof has been one of our partner organizations for a long time, and we spend our DRYING LITTLE TEARS Day there every year, so I know the facility well and am very happy to support it," explains Jenny's motivation.
Thanks to the funding, all terrace doors were replaced with barrier-free alternatives. Now families can easily access the outdoor areas and spend precious moments in nature when they need them most.
"What moves me most is the thought that we were able to make a tangible difference for families facing challenging circumstances," Jenny describes the project.
