The Regine Sixt Children's Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS has supported the complete refurbishment of the parent house at the ICOR Heart Institute in Maputo, Mozambique, thereby providing families of children with heart surgery with more dignified accommodation. The Instituto do Coração is the country's only pediatric heart center and performs life-saving heart operations for children completely free of charge.
Through the partner organization mates4health e.V., new furniture was procured for the common areas, including armchairs, chairs and extension tables. Additionally, the family rooms received new textiles and household items such as bed linen, towels, bath mats and curtains. The previous equipment was heavily worn or defective due to age and heavy use.
The parent house offers families – mostly mothers – free accommodation during the time around the heart surgery. Medical follow-up care, which is otherwise hardly available in Mozambique, also takes place here. Thanks to the new equipment, families can now stay in a more hygienic and functional environment while their children receive vital medical treatment.
